However, I will say this. We never saw Ben come back from the temple but that doesn't mean he wasn't back at that point. Also... a good amount of time did pass between Roger shooting Sayid and the bomb going off. It is plausible and I would say even likely they still got off the island as part of the evacuation. I will have to go back and look but I don't know if the evacuation was ordered until after Sayid was shot.

Still I like the way you are thinking and I agree there was something peculiar about the way Roger spoke about being on the island and leaving it. But we DO know a few things. The were on the island at some point that Ben was alive so lets assume 1970's and when 815 flew over it was at the bottom of the ocean. So if it was not the bomb that did it, what then?

Comment on Recap of Episode 6.7 "Dr. Linus"

Smoke Locke first appeared to us on the other Island. He came across on a boat with Ben. I agree that we've been lead to believe he can't leave the "Island", but it must actually be the Island complex which includes the smaller island and Hydra station (where Caesar found the sawed off shotgun) - or the writers have created another really annoying gaping hole in their story.

Comment on Recap of Episode 6.7 "Dr. Linus"

Just some random questions to think about:
How will Smoke Locke leave the island to travel to the Hydra Station (on the smaller island)? We've been lead to believe that he is imprisoned on the "main" island. I suspect it could be due to the elimination of Dogen.

Additionally, wouldn't the group of survivors be safer to make their "final stand" against Smoke Locke inside the sonic fence surrounding "Otherton"? In the past it had kept the monster out. Perhaps the Rules have changed though.

Comment on Recap of Episode 6.7 "Dr. Linus"

"In this case we know had they stayed on the island they would have died when the bomb went off and the island sank to the bottom of the ocean."
Seth, this statement of yours helps further my theory that what we are seeing in the sideways flashes are NOT a result of the bomb going off in 1977. Unless I'm missing something, at the time that the bomb supposedly went off in 1977, BOTH Ben and Rodger were still on the Island - not evacuated as "non-essential personnel". Ben is in the temple after being shot by Sayid, and Sayid is shot by Rodger in the mayhem that ensues right before the Losties implement their "blow up the Island" plan. If the bomb "works" and blows up the Island in 1977, Ben and Rodger are dead and therefore cannot be in a 2004 alternate time line.

Comment on Seth Grunlode on Bob & Brian 2/24/2010

Tommy,
after seeing last night's episode (Ben's storyline) I still say my theory holds water. Had Ben sided with Smocke, the sideways flash would have reflected a more "penance-filled" life ala Sayid's and he most definately would have sold Alex up the river for the opportunity to become the principal. However, we found out that Ben's internal scale is indeed tipped more to the good side and his sideways flash reflects that ie: good relationship with his father who is alive, Alex is alive and truly loves and respects him as a person instead of fearing and rebelling against him. It is not the ideal of Hurley's sideways flash because Ben still has to pay for his "sins" against Jacob - the big one being KILLING him.

I agree with you that Claire is currently the wrench in my theory, but I'm patiently waiting to see how her storyline rides out. Damon and Carlton have been known to make the viewers think one way and then completely surprise us with a last minute twist. Last night's episode was an example of that.

Comment on Recap of Episode 6.7 "Dr. Linus"

Chang ordered the evac before the incident but, if memory serves, young Ben was with Richard Alpert at the Temple, no?

Comment on Recap of Episode 6.7 "Dr. Linus"

I think that Jack helped Widmore find the island by smashing the lighthouse mirror. This is another example of the creator using opposites in storytelling. Normally lighthouses help boats find land, but in this case the lighthouse was disguising the island. After the mirrors broke the island became visible again.

Also, was that a picture of the Black Rock in the history book that Alex had. I can't remember what the picture looked like at the auction a few seasons ago to see if it was the same portrait. Maybe the ship was part of the East India Trading Company.

Comment on Recap of Episode 6.7 "Dr. Linus"

The fact that Ben and his father are both off the island tells us much more than that. If I remember correctly, isn't Ben in the hands of Richard being saved at the moment that the bomb went off? Yes Chang ordered them off the Island, but Ben was with the others and his father was busy shooting Sayid in the stomach when they should have been getting on the sub. I think this tells us that the deviation between the two timelines happened earlier than the incident.

Comment on Greeting from across the pond...

Seth, on Bob and Brian this morning, you mentioned that Richard commented when Jacob touched someone, they are immortal. But then you mentioned Locke was touched, brought back from the dead, but is not dead anyway. Richard mentioned he couldnt kill himself, so he wanted Jack to do it. Remember, Locke was killed by Ben, so if someone else tries to kill a candidate, it can happen. But since Jack is also a candidate, by him lighting the dynamite, it wouldnt go off. Someone other than a candidate would have had to light the dynamite.

Comment on Recap of Episode 6.5 "Lighthouse" Part 1

Agreed. It is also hinted that jacob and the mib weren't always enemies either.Like Jack and sawyer. Also Jack felt compelled to come back to the Island(Jacob) and Sawyer wants to get off in the worst way(Mib).
